China and Tajikistan have been working together on a greenhouse vegetable project, located about 70 kilometers away from the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. The project spans more than 200 greenhouses across 50 hectares.
The complex specializes in growing tomatoes, strawberries and cut flowers. As part of the project, market research is done to be sure of the demand, and the harvest is meticulously planned.
The greenhouses were constructed by Chinese specialists in the Yavansky region, where tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, eggplants and other vegetables are grown. The aim of the greenhouse construction was to meet the demand of the local market for vegetables during winter and early spring as well as to start exporting.
The complex provides employment for 200 workers, 85% of whom are citizens of Tajikistan.
